Music plays an important role in my latest novel, Toys in Babylon. Snippets of lyrics permeate the text – often in English, sometimes in German, occasionally even in French. One such snippet – “We can be heroes just for one day” – is surely recognizable to everyone. Others are not – unless you grew up, as I did, in the sixties and became enamored of pop music on both sides of the English Channel. Fortunately, none of the musical snippets is so obscure that it cannot be sampled easily on YouTube. Here, for your listening pleasure, is my “playlist” from Toys in Babylon. |
